Writers Guild of America - New Member

Posted in News by admin

Last night,  in a secret ceremony at an undisclosed location on Fairfax and 3rd, Markus Innocenti was inducted into the Writers Guild of America (west).

“I am unable to reveal the exact nature of what took place,” Innocenti said, early this morning,”other than I am now a part of something bigger than myself. And older. Much older. And bigger.”

Clearly surprised to become a WGAw member, Innocenti went on to comment that his induction would be life-changing.

“I have been left under no illusion that from this day forward, I cannot - and will not - accept writing assignments from producers who are not signatory to the Guild. This is a new paradigm for me, as my entire career has been built on writing excellent material for producers with neither the funds nor the intention to pay me more than the cost of breakfast at Denny’s.”

Disturbed by the knowledge that he doesn’t know where his next Arby’s Roast Beef Sandwich is coming from, Innocenti put a brave face on it. “I have to realize that the Guild is there to help me re-evaluate my worth and take my career to a new level. A level where I might actually get paid for writing. It’s scary to go into the unknown, not least because  I’m not sure where to take the check if it should arrive, but it’s good to know that other members have gone through this change and survived.”

Markus Innocenti’s most recent writing assignment - a rewrite - was completed in June last year. “I’ve been told that the check was mailed in December 2008 and might have got lost in the Christmas rush,” Innocenti says. “Now I’ll be able to  have the Guild look into the matter.”

Mr. Innocenti was last seen standing on his office desk, shirt sleeves rolled up, hollering “Union! Union!”
